Formalizing Ackee Seed Foundation: Building with Care & Accountability

Laying the ground work for responsible structure

Strengthening governance, partnerships, and transparency as we grow

As the Ackee Seed Foundation continues to grow, we are currently in a crucial phase of formalizing the organization’s legal and governance structures.

Alongside increasing interest from partners, volunteers, and collaborators, both in Europe and Jamaica, we are intentionally taking the time to ensure that all documentation, compliance processes, and governance frameworks are properly established and accessible to the public.

This step is essential to operating with integrity, transparency, and long-term sustainability.

What’s Happening Behind the Scenes

Since the Art of Returning fundraiser and subsequent initiatives, momentum around the foundation has continued to build. We have received:

  • Expressions of interest from potential partners and institutions

  • Outreach from individuals interested in volunteering and contributing skills

  • Growing engagement around planned initiatives in Jamaica and the Netherlands

At the same time, we are finalizing the legal formation of the foundation, including:

  • Governing body documentation

  • Supervisory board requirements

  • Notarial and legal registration processes

These steps are necessary to ensure the foundation can operate responsibly, manage funds correctly, and form partnerships in a way that protects both the communities we work with and those who support the work.

Why This Takes Time

Formalizing an organization requires care. Legal registration, governance frameworks, and compliance checks are essential to ensure that the foundation can steward resources ethically and build partnerships with trust.

Because Ackee Seed Foundation is being structured to work across borders and in close collaboration with communities, these steps require thoughtful coordination. While this takes time, it allows us to lay a strong foundation that supports both transparency and long-term impact.

We see this phase as an investment in doing the work properly from the beginning.

Our Commitment to Transparency

Transparency is a core value of the Ackee Seed Foundation. Once registration is finalised, we plan to make key documents publicly accessible, including:

  • Governance structure and board composition

  • Operating principles

  • Partnership frameworks

This will allow supporters, collaborators, and the wider public to clearly understand how the foundation operates and how decisions are made.

Aligning Operations Between Jamaica and the Netherlands

In parallel with legal registration, we are also working to ensure that our structure:

  • Respects local contexts and needs in Jamaica

  • Aligns with regulatory and operational requirements in the Netherlands

  • Supports ethical, community-led partnerships rather than extractive models

This includes thoughtful planning around how partnerships are formed, how resources are distributed, and how long-term initiatives are developed.

What Comes Next

While some processes are still ongoing, we are actively:

  • Solidifying a working volunteer team

  • Continuing conversations with aligned partners

  • Preparing frameworks for future initiatives and research-based engagement in Jamaica

As soon as legal formalization is complete, we will share an update outlining the next phase of the foundation’s work.

We believe that building something meaningful requires patience, clarity, and accountability.

Thank you for your continued support, trust, and engagement as the Ackee Seed Foundation takes the time to establish a strong and responsible foundation, one that can support communities in Jamaica with care, respect, and long-term vision.
