We are a small, committed team, brought together by a shared care for Jamaica’s development and a belief that creativity, done right, can be one of the most powerful forces for lasting impact. Each of us brings something different to the table. What we share is the intention behind it.
Karla King
Founder & ChairwomanKarla King is a Jamaican-born visual artist, feminist, and humanitarian based in the Netherlands. Her practice spans painting and poetry rooted in storytelling, identity, and emotional resilience. She has exhibited across the Netherlands and Europe, including art fairs, cultural institutions, and independent curatorial platforms.
She holds a degree in Construction Management from Jamaica and a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Business from the Netherlands, a combination that shapes how she thinks about creativity as both expression and a tool for building real-world impact. Beyond the studio, Karla brings a breadth of professional experience that directly informs the Foundation’s work. With a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Business, including a Minor in Community Driven Innovators and a background in human-centered design thinking, she has worked across marketing communications, reforestation and sustainability sectors, creative strategy consultancy, and community programme development.
Growing up in Trelawny, inspired her work, in the studio and in the field, to be driven by care for communities and the places that shaped her. She firmly believes art can be a vessel for meaning
David Boyd
Member of the Board of Directors - TreasurerDavid Boyd brings a grounded and principled approach to financial stewardship that is rare in the NGO space. An environmentalist, sustainability advisor, and expert in NGO financial compliance, David has built his career at the intersection of green finance and responsible governance with a particular appreciation for the Caribbean and its communities.
As Treasurer of Ackee Seed Foundation, David oversees the transparent and responsible management of the Foundation’s finances, ensuring that every resource entrusted to us is handled with integrity and purpose.
Paul Heuts
Member of the Board of Directors - Secretary Paul Heuts is a communications specialist and journalist whose work has long been guided by a commitment to the people and stories that often go unheard. With a background spanning humanitarian work, DEI advocacy, and community-centered storytelling, Paul brings both rigour and humanity to the way the Foundation communicates and operates.
As Secretary and Board Supervisor, Paul ensures clarity, ethical communication, and organisational accountability, holding the Foundation to the standards it sets for itself.
Keiron Brand
Supervisory Board MemberKeiron Rand brings a rare combination of environmental expertise, financial insight, and genuine commitment to the communities and ecosystems he works to protect.
With a background spanning sustainable finance, ESG, and cross-sector collaboration, Keiron has dedicated his career to bridging the gap between environmental integrity and real-world investment. He spent over five years at WWF, where he developed and managed Bankable Nature Solutions across Africa, building a pipeline of projects designed to unlock private sector investment for nature-positive, climate-resilient development. As regional lead for the Dutch Fund for Climate and Development at WWF-NL, he supported more than 30 organisations in accessing innovative climate finance.
His expertise in structuring, stakeholder engagement, and global sustainability frameworks brings a valuable dimension to the Foundation’s governance, grounding our work in both ambition and accountability
